Good week.

It's been a good week.

I was able to use my spike strips for the first time. Our Lt. got into a pursuit with a kid who was just to dumb to stop and take his speeding ticket. I was able to get in front of the pursuit and lay out the spike strips. They worked very well. I deflated 3 of the four tires. He stopped only about 1/2 a mile further down the road, and was taken into custody without too much of a fight. There were other reason's why he ran that I should probably not go into at this time.

The next interesting thing i did this week was assist with a search warrent on a house. We found over 50 marijuana plants growing on the property. It was quite a site to see. That is the biggest grow I have personally seen.

I'm a bit short on words today. Don't really feel like elaborating on the stories but suffice it to say it was pretty awsome to finally get to spike someone, and it was equally awsome to see how well the spikes actually work in a real world situation.

  1. I hadn\'t heard about those spike strips, but what a great idea. In our area we have at least one fatal chase a year i think.  The strips would prevent that.  I think i\'ll call our police chief and mention it.  Thanks!

  2. You certainly did have a busy week, copper : )  I keep trying to convince the cop a few houses down from me to get me a set of those things.  And one of those elastic wrap things for when "they" act up.  Do you have those, too?  What fun!  <insert evil laugh here>

  3. Hiya-Can you help me?  What do you call it when the taser is deployed for the five second interval?  The sentence reads:  "The taser report showed there was only one (discharge, deployment, ?) for the pre-set 5 second interval."  Do you see what I\'m trying to say?  I am working on a class excercise and I don\'t speak taser-ese.  How would you say it?  I need to sound like an officer when I say this.  Thank you so much (in advance).

  4. I think I got it...that sentence is completely wrong.  I found a spec sheet on taser.com that had almost the exact sentence.  sorry to bombard your comment box.

"The taser data shows only one activated 5-second cycle":  Sound right?

  5. I didn\'t see your post. Yes that sounds about right. Every time you shoot the Taser it automatically runs through a 5 second burst, it also keeps record of how long the taser was shot for. It is possibly bot go longer by holding in the trigger. It is also possible to stop it sooner, by putting the safety back on. so a normal cycle is 5 seconds.

  8. All in all, the trial portion I saw went well.  Funny thing though, in one of the articles I read, the DA say something like, \'its time this is over for the officer.\'  I thought it sounded a little passive, defense attorney-like, not prosecution like.  When I listened to the two sides on a witness, there didn\'t seem to be what you typically expect.  I got the feeling the only reason this case was in front of a jury was because there was a judge out there that insisted.  The county didn\'t want to try it.  The DA just went through the motions.  After seeing it, I was sure the jury would acquit.  There was no substance to convict.  On the surface it sounds like a good case.  But the argument just wasn\'t there.  I\'m sure everyone is glad its over.  But now there is one more civil portion.  Which means everyone has to do it all over again.  This time, hopefully, the questions will be a little more shell like since its for a wrongful termination, not wrongful death or criminal assault.
Thanks for asking, by the way.  There have been about 15 hits a day from search engines looking for info.  I was hoping someone would leave some opinions, but no one has.
